Building & Testing Prototypes
project overview
This project focused on designing a running application for a smart wearable device that motivates and engages runners of all levels. Instead of opting for a conventional smartwatch or wristband, I designed a smart ring—a compact, minimal, and ergonomic device that allows for single-hand interaction while running. The design emphasised readability, simplicity, and intuitive gestures, with contrasting colours and bold typography to ensure visibility on the small display. After creating and testing a paper prototype, user feedback revealed challenges with text legibility, navigation clarity, and accidental interactions. These insights guided refinements in the digital Figma prototype, such as adding page indicators, improving icon clarity, and using hold gestures to prevent unintentional inputs. As one of my first hands-on UX projects, this assignment shaped my understanding of user-centered design, iterative prototyping, and usability testing. The lessons learned here influenced my approach to future projects, particularly in designing interfaces that are both simple and engaging while staying grounded in real user needs.
